Owner of Perth department store could fall into administration

The department store chain Beales has confirmed it could collapse into administration - putting around 1,000 jobs at risk.

The Bournemouth-based retailer, which has 22 shops - including one on St John Street in Perth - is in talks with landlords over rent reductions.

It is also understood to have spoken with two potential buyers, including a venture capital investor and a rival retail business.

Beales opened its Perth outlet - the only one in Scotland - in November 2017, taking over the unit that was formerly occupied by the collapsed retailer McEwans.

It was reported last month Beales had been put up for sale.
